and pennsylvania later on. i slide further to the east, notice the snow hitting the city of cleveland, pittsburgh, buffalo, burlington, a lot of snow in interior new england. we're looking at over a foot of snow. a couple of inches for new york city and boton. if that's not enough. we have severe storms right now sweeping across the southeast. these are the same storms that brought the tornado you saw pictures of earlier to mobile, alabama. we're not done yet. frequent lightning strikes, in georgia. luckily, today, a smaller geographic area, but a busy day, people heading back to the stores and traveling today. right here across parts of south carolina and parts of north carolina, are you seeing the threat of severe weather and the eastern half of georgia, jacksonville, florida. if you are driving in the region, please make sure you are aware of damage. we have mountain snow out west. a really unsettled weather pattern and unusual for this holiday week. alina. >> have you been very busy, bone eschneider. >>> other top stories, wleerning about that guy that killed firefighters on christmas eve mor

and west of the city, out towards carroll county and fredrick county. a wintery mix moving in during the course of the mornings and the afternoon. right now it's clear over the north of the state, but a couple hundred miles to the south and west of us. notice in about three hours we're going to start to see this batch of precipitation moving in and it will start as snow in a lot of spots. a burst of snow first, it goes over to the rain for the city as we head into the midday hour. still an ice situation toward the north and west. we'll break down the details, show you some numbers coming up in a little bit. we'll get a check on the traffic over with lauren cook. >>reporter: good morning, mike. all that wintery mix will make the roads slick. no delays in white marsh, 95, nice and clear from route 43 all the way into it the city. if you are traveling on the beltway this morning, no delays from parkville all the way up to towson. as we check in and take a live look at the west side at liberty road, traffic moving right along, no problems getting down to route 40 or if you are traveling

that shut down interstate 40 joust outside oklahoma city. texas got a double dose of bad weather, a 25-year-old man was killed near houston after a tree fell on his pickup. snow covered the ground in long view and turned dallas into a winter wonderland and blizzard warnings stretched from arkansas to pennsylvania. turning to mobile, alabama, windows were shattered and cars tossed off streets as this tornado touched down. >> oh my god, we need to go. it's right there. >> that's scary. several buildings damaged and several car accidents were blamed on the storm but no reports of serious injuries. emergency management officials tell cnn power has been restored to many customers, just over 7,000 in the dark, down from 23,000 last night. we head to mobile, christina leavenworth of w.e.a.r. in just about an hour weather officials will assess damage. christina, what are you hearing so far? >> reporter: good morning, carol. we are seeing a lot of damage here and it's widespread. the national weather service is saying the tornado touched down in five different locations, one of them here at murphy h

in hayward and 55 degrees in concord, redwood city will get up to the near mid '50s. here is your kron 47 day around the bay forecast. it will be a little breezy at times. thursday will be loss of sunshine and drive around 53 degrees. friday and saturday may be possibilities of more rain. sunday should be dry and for new year's eve we do expect to be dry and milder. >> this is our snow report. if they did have a lot of fresh snow yesterday. look at sierra. north star is also ed more than a foot. it is 16 to 20 in. of snow. if you are up there if you do have to take advantage of this. >> we are looking at a great ride around the bay area this morning. we're not tracking any delays or slowdowns. look at the bay bridge at west out. there are no metering lights due to the holiday. the same can be seen as the san mateo bridge that even with an accident that was just cleared there is actually not a lot of traffic. this has not done anything a slow ride or to increase the drive times across the span. looking at light traffic through marin county it is a 21 minute drive time with an easy commute acro

. haywood, union city, about to move into san ramone. solano scattered rain to report for this part of the bay area. bulk of the activity in the southern third of the bay area. you can see development out to the west. the yellows and reds, indicating the increase in the rainfall rates san jose to sunnyvale. out toward campbell, blossoo m hill road. increase in the rainfall and the possibility of hail with some thunderstorms. keep that in mind at least in the short term. as far as temperatures, its cool. mainly in the 40s to around 50. santa rosa in 40. haywood 48 and san jose around 46 degrees. forecast for today, cool showers this morning, we will hold on to the chance of showers right on in to the afternoon with temperatures only maxing out in the low to mid50s. yesterday's storm, that cold front, today we have the speckled clouds off shore. that's a signature of cold unstable air and that will sweep in to the area for today. we will hold onto the sun, passing clouds and heavier downpours. here is the forecast model, 10:00 showing you scattered rain showers, it's doing a good job

city of kansas in my home state. officer jeff athalate fatally shot while on duty, investigating drug activity occurring inside a vehicle outside a neighborhood grocery store. as they approached the vehicle and orbded the okay -- ordered the occupants to get out the gunmen took the lives of both officers. when we lose someone in a community in kansas, it's not just a name. it's somebody we go to church with. it's somebody we know and care about. these individuals are that to their friends and family in topeka and across our state. david had been part of the topeka police department for 21 years. he spent 13 years as a reserve officer and 8 years as a full-time officer. his service tkphot begin as a police officer. he served in the kansas national guard and recently retired. police chief ronald miller described david as someone who served his life to his country and to the city of tow pea kafplt david's service was a model to others including his son brandon who followed his dad's footsteps and served the topeka community as a police officer himself. the second officer -- jeff -- was 2
